Sound More British 2/4 - Linking! (Quick Guide)

Let me show you a quick magic trick.

Read this sentence out loud (QUICKLY) – as that is how Bri’ish people actually speak…

“Go on then, let’s play some footy!”

If you said this correctly… you may have noticed a whole new letter appear:

“Go-won then, let’s play some footy!”

Wait… ‘w’? Where on earth did that come from? Well, it’s magic, like I said!

Okay, it’s not quite magic, but it should be…

The ‘w’ comes from something called 'linking', a technique that native speakers use when they are talking quickly.

So, if you have ever noticed yourself sounding a bit... unnatural when speaking quickly - this could be why.

I know what you must be thinking: Wow... this seems so hard. If only a funny, cool British YouTuber would just make a full guide on this...
